AYF-Western Region to Hold a Protest at World Affairs Council Luncheon
Beverly Hills, CA – The Armenian Youth Federation Western Region (AYF-WR) will be holding a protest against the Republic of Turkeyís Minister of National Defense, Vecdi Gn¸l at a World Affairs Council luncheon on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 11am. The luncheon and protest will be held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, 9641 Sunset Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210.
Mr. Gn¸l will be addressing various topics at the luncheon such as The Evolving Security Environment and Turkeyís Strategic Role in Eurasia.” He will also discuss Turkeyís vis-ý-vis the European Union, as well as the changing strategic landscape of Eurasia. It is possible that the topic of Armenia and the relationship between Armenia and Turkey will be brought up. It is important and our point to send a message to those attending the luncheon that the issue of the Armenian Genocide should also be addressed, discussed, and resolved.
“It is very important to have a good number of people protesting outside the Beverly Hills Hotel. It will not only show everybody attending the luncheon that we have not forgotten about the tragic events of 1915.” said Marie Minassian, AYF-WR Central Executive member. “It will also show the Turkish government that they have a huge force to deal with until this issue is resolved once and for all”
The World Affairs Council is an organization whose goal is to promote a better understanding of current world affairs by hosting prominent speakers. All luncheons include a guest speakers as well as a question and answer session. The council does not endorse nor promote any specific viewpoint, but invites speakers with differing opinions.
