Burbank AYF to Host Screening of Armenian Musical Comedy, Yerevan Blues

The Armenian Youth Federation Burbank Varak chapter presents a screening of the Armenian musical comedy,Yerevan Blues, starring Mikael Pogosyan. The film also stars Ms. Armenia 1997, Angelina Babajanyan, as well as famous singer and lyricist Ruben Hakhverdyan. The event will take place on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Burbank Armenian Center, located at 321 E. Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank starting at 8:30 PM

The film portrays the life of an artist (Mikael Pogosyan) in the early 1990s who is enamored with Yerevan. It is composed of several short skits, taking place in various locations and settings throughout the city. Various scenes allude to Armenian history, present day Armenia, and the difficult life of an artist in Yerevan. Despite the fact that  Yerevan Blues is a comedy, it highlights and criticizes the social and political issues of the time. It reveals the    struggles the people of Armenia faced in the early 1990s, during the post-soviet era. Yerevan Blues conveys a powerful message of the love and dedication one possesses for their country, no matter it’s condition.

By watching this film, viewers will gain better insight on the state of Armenia during post-soviet era and realize the changes the country has gone through since then. The film will definitely evoke a sense of nostalgia for those who have both lived in and visited Yerevan.
