AYF Nanor Krikorian Scholarship 2013 Recipients Announced
GLENDALE – On Tuesday, The Armenian Youth Federation Western USA announced the recipients of its annual Nanor Krikorian Memorial Scholarship (NKS). The Scholarship was established in March of 2003 in memory of AYF member, Nanor Krikorian, whose life was tragically cut short due to cancer.
The 2013 class of recipients are: Lilit Gizhlaryan of Yerevan State University, Alek Gulbenkian of Rutgers University, Maral Aslanian of the Universityy of Texas at Austin, Lilit Hakobyan of the University of Maryland College Park, Arev Dinkjian of Providence College, and Regina Agopian of Pierce College. “There were many qualified applicants, and as a result, the decision process was very competitive”, says NKS Coordinator, Shant Meguerditchian. “It’s great to see Armenian students striving to achieve higher education and the will to give back to the community.”
The scholarship awards graduating high school seniors and college students of Armenian descent grants aimed at furthering their education. Scholarship awards are given annually to qualified students who go through the application process and show exemplary merit. Particular emphasis is placed on a student’s public service and extracurricular activities in the community.
“It’s always nice to know that there are people out there who stand for ideas and are ready to fight for a good change.” said Lilit Gizhlaryan, one of the recipients of the scholarship. “The AYF is indeed one of those teams. I appreciate the work they do with us—young Armenians; they encourage and help us to become better citizens while working to create a better Armenia. In return, I will try my best to help the Armenian Community in every possible way.” Maral Arslanian expresses how “people forget that, for change to happen, those willing to lead that change need support at times. AYF really does provide that support, and I’m incredibly grateful for the work that they do. Thanks to them, I know that, with dedication to my studies, I will be able to help strengthen the Armenian community, both here in the United States and abroad.”
